Breast feeding and
gastric surgery
More and more people with obesity are looking at
the option of gastric surgery which has the effect of reducing
the stomach’s capacity.
However, gastric surgery has a risk of death and a study
found a 3 to 5 percent death who had gastric bypass. The
risk of death has been found to be higher among men, older
patients, and among the patients of less-experienced surgeons.
Gastric surgery reduces the intake of nutrients needed in
breast feeding so much care is needed to have supplements when
breastfeeding.
So there is no reason you can’t breast-feed if their diet is
great and you supplement with vitamins and minerals.
When combining breast-feeding with gastric surgery,
there are several key nutrients needed to achieve success
in the breast-feeding and the babies health.
Consult your medical practitioner for references to a good
dietician.
